Five killed in car-truck collision in Jhajjar

Chandigarh: Five persons, including four of a family, were killed when their car collided with a truck near Raiya village in Haryana's Jhajjar district on Wednesday morning, police said. Among those killed were a couple and their two minor children, a Jhajjar Police official said.

All the five people were returning from Delhi to their village Kasni in Jhajjar after attending a marriage, he said. He said there were light rains in the area where the accident occurred. The truck driver fled after the accident and a case has been registered in this connection, the police officer said.

Delhi witnesses rains, more forecast for tomorrow

New Delhi: National Capital and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad on Wednesday experienced rain and thundershower. As per the India Meteorological Department, both Safdarjung and Palam observatories recorded 2 mm of rainfall over Delhi and National Capital Region.

"These rains were the results of an active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. This system had induced a Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan and adjoining areas. A Trough from this system was also extending up till West Uttar Pradesh across Delhi," stated Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency.

Weather experts have predicted that on February 21, the rain will intensify in Delhi as Cyclonic Circulation will move towards Haryana and Punjab. "In wake of this movement, many parts of Delhi and NCR area will receive light to moderate rain and thundershower activities. These on and off rains will continue lashing the region until February 22.

There are also bright chances of a hailstorm at one or two places, but the intensity will remain on the lower side," Skymet added. Today, the minimum and maximum temperatures recorded in Delhi was 14 Degree Celsius and 24 Degree Celsius, respectively. Humidity in the region throughout the day will oscillate between 90 per cent to 98 per cent.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Income tax sleuths seized over Rs one crore in cash and jewellery worth Rs 70 lakh after raiding the properties of a road contractor on Tuesday in Bhopal. The IT sleuths made the recovery after raiding four locations of road contractor Nilay Jain. The IT raid is still underway in the cityâ?Ts Arera colony area. Jainâ?Ts house and offices were raided during the operation. During the raid, Rs 1 crore cash was seized from his house whereas another Rs 70 Lakh was found in the bank locker. IT sleuths have also found jewellery worth approximately Rs 70 Lakh.
